Welcome to the Conversation

Hello, and welcome to our new blog!

A group of friends are gathering weekly in real life to discuss what we are reading in David Platt's challenging Radical book. Someone suggested adding an online community where we can come together throughout the week and share thoughts on how to live the life Jesus calls us to.

We welcome anyone to comment in!  You may be attending our group or are a friend of a friend or even an onlooker who is curious about this thing we call faith.  We hope this becomes a community where you can be real and ask the hard questions.

Pull up a chair. The coffee is brewing. Let's go around the circle and introduce ourselves!

  2. There were a lot of great comments in class tonight. I enjoy talking about matters that are challenging and give me an opportunity to examine myself. As I reflect on tonight's class, I can't help but wonder where do I begin. How do I put into practice the idea of being a radical? How far am I supposed to take this? Just some questions I asked myself while driving home tonight.

  3. Where to begin...in the middle of my thought process or do I catch ya'll up on my previous thoughts that led to the middle? Nah. This class is leading us in the direction of dumping "stuff." Literally? Emotionally? Don't know. Some don't have TV in their house. Some don't get on the computer 2-3 times a day. Are their hearts any more pure than mine? Do they look to God more than me? Is it possible to "dump the stuff" and look holy on the outside but still be an empty shell? How do I "dump the stuff" emotionally? How do I empty myself so God can fill me?

  4. John, thank you for leading our class discussions. There were lots of great comments last night. I am getting more out of the book by hearing everyone else's perspectives.

Chad, I wonder the same thing...how far do we take this? Jesus had no place to lay his head, nor did his disciples. But I don't sense him leading my family to become homeless.

So, as Dawn alludes to I think the answer has to do with a letting go of our attachments to "stuff" - both emotional and physical detachments.

This book and class is definitely challenging!
